Biographie

Thomas Neuhaus (*1961), verheiratet mit der Tänzerin und Schauspielerin  Kerstin Hörner und Vater zweier Kinder, studierte an der Folkwang-Hochschule (heute Folkwang Universität der Künste) in Essen Komposition bei Wolfgang Hufschmidt und elektronische Komposition bei Dirk Reith. In den 80er und 90er Jahren war er Mitentwickler des AUDIAC Projektes zur computergestützten Komposition und Klangsynthese. Seit 1988 arbeitet er als Komponist mit dem Theater der Klänge, Düsseldorf,  seit 1994 unterrichtet er Fächer der Musikinformatik sowie elektronische Komposition am Institut für Computermusik und elektronische Medien ( ICEM ) der Folkwang-Universität der Künste . Von 2000 bis 2004 unterrichtete er auch an der  Hochschule für Künste Bremen. Seit Oktober 2004 ist er Professor für Musikinformatik am ICEM. Er ist Gründungs- und Vorstandsmitglied der Gesellschaft für Neue Musik Ruhr. Seit Oktober 2011 ist er künstlerischer Leiter des ICEM

Er entwickelte verschiedene Kompositionssprachen und Realzeitsysteme. Neben den verschiedensten Verbindungen von elektronischer Musik und Bühnenkunste interessiert ihn vor allem die Formalisierung und automatische Generierung musikalischer Strukturen.

Since 1994 he teaches at the Institute for Computer Music and Electronic Media (ICEM ) of the Folkwang University of the Arts. From 2000 to 2002 he also taught at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen.. Since October 2004 he is appointed professor for computer music at ICEM. He is founding member and member of the board of the Gesellschaft für Neue Musik Ruhr (Society for New Music Ruhr). Since October 2011 he is the artistic director of ICEM

He has developed several composition languages and interactive realtime environments. His research interests include all kinds of connections between electronic music and performing arts as well asthe formalisation and automatic generation of musical structures.
